With the focus on the future of football in Canada increasing, I returned home to help turn to the younger generation of up and coming players. With this in mind Victoria United is thrilled to direct its attention towards the next generation of youth players in Greater Victoria and Vancouver Island.
Our Fall/Winter programs work with each individual player, focusing on a strategic development plan that will propel them forward towards the next stage of their Development. There they will be surrounded by other players who also have a desire to better themselves, creating an increasingly challenging and fun environment – the perfect environment for continued growth. This is unique as most programs will develop the whole group as one!
With the growing divide between our football environment and that of the rest of the world, we need our players training in quality environments on a continuous basis. Ideally, all candidates should be playing in the BCSPL (formerly known as HPL) or the VIPL. Having said that, we are not entirely exclusive to those who choose not to play at these levels as long as they meet the coaches' requirements.
Players interested should have an adequate level of technical ability, with a mindset of growth, a strong work ethic and a desire to learn.
In these months we are able to work with the larger portion of players on the island. We look at this as a chance to grow the game in our communities and bring the love and passion back to it!
Over the years I have developed a deep passion for the game and believe it is my responsibility to pass this on so kids learn also to love the game. They need to respect the technical side of the game by putting in the time and that only happens if they love what they are doing and it is fun. Too many times academies lose sight of what’s important – fun and passion. My desire is to have kids learning the game and recognize it’s a balance between talent – hard work and hours of practice.
